“Wow! Look what God did!!!”
Pastors, what was your “Wow” from this past Sunday or even today?
Ministry has its share of woes, wars, and worries. Sadly, we may have been blessed with several “wows” and let one woe come into the picture, and we are immediately overcome with the woe instead of the wow! We are fixated on the woe, and we forget the wow!
We need to rejoice and praise the Lord for the “Wows!”
Today’s “wow” happened during a hospital visit. Jeff has endured major trials in his life such as losing his job, his wife passing away, brain cancer, seizures, having to move out of his apartment, and now knee replacement surgery. As I walked into his room, he greeted me with a smile. After awhile, I read Psalm 61. When I finished with verse 8, So will I ever sing praises to your name, I said, “Jeff, may I encourage you from time-to-time to mute the TV and just sing praises to the Lord?”
This man who loves music and plays the piano with heart, right then and there and with a weakened voice, broke into song! He didn’t miss a word:
Each step I take my Saviour goes before me,
And with His loving hand He leads the way,
And with each breath I whisper “I adore Thee;”
Oh, what joy to walk with Him each day.
Refrain
Each step I take I know that He will guide me;
To higher ground He ever leads me on.
Until some day the last step will be taken.
Each step I take just leads me closer home.
I trust in God, no matter come what may,
For life eternal in His hand,
He holds the key that opens up the way,
That will lead me to the promised land.
From there, he continued with “Nearer, My God to Thee,” “He Touched Me,” and “Blessed Assurance.” On a side note . . . he often struggles with pulling his thoughts together to speak, but hardly ever when it comes to singing!!
Wow! This dear brother, in the midst of another trial, displayed the song in his heart placed there since the day he received Christ as Savior (John 15:11) and the wonderful grace of God to lift up His name in praise (2 Corinthians 9:8)!!
Wow!!
Pastor, what is your “wow? Take the time to pause and praise the Lord right now, and if you can, leave a brief comment. I’d love to rejoice with you!!
