Contentment On the Mountain and In the Valley

The church auditorium was 3/4 empty on Sunday . . . . Christ is enough.

The church auditorium was packed to overflow . . . . Christ is enough.

Sunday’s sermon was a failure . . . . Christ is enough.

Sunday’s sermon was theologically, exegetically, practically sound . . . . Christ is enough.

The congregational singing was flat. . . . Christ is enough.

The congregational singing was glorious! . . . . Christ is enough.

No one responded to the invitation . . . . Christ is enough.

The altar was full; people repenting, decisions made. . . . Christ is enough.

Folk left so quickly at the end of the service. . . . Christ is enough.

Folk hung around in the foyer, the auditorium talking, sharing. . . . Christ is enough.

Only one other individual showed up for pre-service prayer meeting . . . . Christ is enough.

The prayer room was full of folk interceding at the Throne of Grace. . . . Christ is enough.

I am feeling so overwhelmed by ministry right now; tempted to throw-in-the-towel. . . . Christ is enough.

Ministry is an absolute, everyday joy! . . . . Christ is enough.

There is a spirit of criticism going through the congregation. . . . Christ is enough.

The congregation is so unified right now; so wonderful. . . . Christ is enough.

Our finances are so low that I may have to take a third job. . . . Christ is enough.

We have been $50,000 or more over budget for the past three years. . . . Christ is enough.

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:11-13)

And you are complete in Christ. (Colossians 2:10).

Pastor, friend . . .

  1. What has your mind been consumed with since Sunday? Is Christ enough?
  2. Are you seeing people/circumstances/trials then Christ or Christ then . . . ?
  3. What has Christ taught you or reminded you of today in the school of contentment?
  4. Are you listening to yourself or preaching the Truth to yourself?
