Joy
Joy is probably naturally one of the last things on a person’s mind as they go through a trial. But we know that joy isn’t natural after all – it’s supernatural. Joy is one of many items listed in the fruit of the Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
Because joy is a fruit of the Spirit and not a natural response, we know that it is possible to have joy no matter what our circumstances are. Joy comes from being Spirit-filled. My pastor recently reminded our church body, “As a Christian, we have a fountain of joy through the presence of the Holy Spirit that is disconnected from external stimuli. Regardless of what is happening around us and to us, we can have joy that stems from within.”
