It’s Monday morning. Your tank is empty. You gave all you had for the Lord yesterday. Your family saw little of you as you were consumed with ministry, people, serving and leading. That comes with the territory and with joy.
May I encourage you to give to your family today? Remember, your first ministry is to your wife. You are her pastor, and she is a church member. While your children are in school, have a date with your wife. If your children are home schooled or you have a job, schedule time for your wife in the late afternoon or evening. It might only be some time on the front porch or a walk around the neighborhood. Perhaps you can have a date out for a meal or some recreation together like hiking or biking.
Your children need you, too Before school, have breakfast as a family. Help your wife prepare the meal. Read the Word and pray together. Listen to your children as they chat around the table. Ask questions. Engage them in conversation. Laugh. Enjoy being together.
Your family needs you more than the church does.
Ron Edmundson says it so well. “Your family needs you more than the church does. They can get another pastor. Your family doesn’t want another you. You’ll have to learn to say ‘no,’ learn how to balance and prioritize your time, and be willing to delegate to others in the church.
By the way, when you spend time with your wife and your family, no discussion about church. Set it aside. Let the Chief Shepherd of the church (1 Peter 5:4) handle your cares and concerns. Give yourself to your wife and family.
Enjoy your Monday!!
