There it was! In the midst of all the Christmas decorations on clearance, Valentine’s Day and Easter were making their presence well-known on the retail shelves!
Yes, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Perhaps you have a church banquet planned or some Sweetheart event. Maybe February 14 is not a part of your planning for 2025.
No matter, my question for you ministry friend is, what plans have you made to celebrate Valentine’s with your sweetheart?
Since you are married to your wife and not your ministry, she is glad for you to take the lead in demonstrating your love for her 365 days-a-year, but especially on Valentine’s Day. This is not a “make up day” for blowing it the other 364 days, but a day to make an investment in your marriage.
Here’s some ideas.
Cook Up Some Fun: Choose a favorite meal recipe and cook together. Use your best tableware, have candles, and during your meal share with each other five reasons why you are glad to be married to each other. Then clean up the dishes together. Think about it . . . no crowds, no waiting, and a lot less expensive, plus you have each other to yourselves. (Get a baby sitter if needed.) By the way pastor, block that time off in your calendar.
Romantic Sweet Dates : Begin the day with coffee and a sweet Valentine’s Day donut at the local bakery. Have a prepared love note to read to each other. For lunch, have a burger and a sweet treat at the local ice cream shop (DQ). Read a chapter from a book on marriage. Then for supper, choose a fine restaurant, dress up a bit, and have a sweet Valentine Day dessert that tops off the day. Use some of the “Date Night Questions” linked in the blog post below to spark some lively conversation. Also, at each stop, make your relationship the topic of discussion and not ministry.
Game Night: You may have to wait until the kids are in bed, but just pull out a game or two, a bag of snacks, play some romantic music, and relax with each other. Have fun! Leave ministry concerns behind.
