A Christmas Confession

First of all, this is not Denise posting. This is her husband, writing to the men today.
I have a confession to make—-I hate putting up the Christmas tree!! Just keepin’ it real, folks!! 🙂 Seriously, over the years, the rigors of getting the tree ready for this festive season has been an adventure to say the least.
In the first place, I think an artificial tree is sacrilegious. As a boy, we always had a real tree, and when our girls were home, we honored the purist tradition of having a live tree. In spite of my purist leanings, going after a tree, cutting it to fit in the tree stand and then getting it to stay upright always presented its own set of bah humbugs.
There was the time I forgot to keep it wrapped after purchasing it from the tree farm. Getting it through the door…

What You Don’t Know (about infertility)
Please take time to read my wife’s insightful and helpful article about this issue. I know her heart that she wants to help in such a potentially hurtful area. Grateful for our Ashley who we held in our arms for only a few minutes, but we will be with forever on the Other Side. There is a hello after goodbye!!
How To Tell if a Child is Ready to Be Saved

Trusting Christ as a little girl has created in me a love for talking to children about God’s gift of salvation. I can relate to them because I remember how it was for me all those years ago when I knew I needed to receive God’s gift of salvation for my own!
Here’s what I remember about myself at that time
- I was a sinner. Oh, I was a “good girl.” You see I wanted to please and obey my parents and others in authority. But even at seven, I remembered lying, disobeying, being sassy or disrespectful. All that was sin, and I knew I was guilty.
- I knew I wasn’t going to go to heaven because of my sinful heart. It had separated me from God.
- I knew Jesus loved me so much that He took my punishment on the cross, and that what He did made…

Saying Goodbye

Technology is a wonderful part of life these days. Do you remember the little transistor radio? That newfangled device with its on/off button, antenna, rolling knobs, and ability to hear music and news from miles away through a little speaker was fascinating in years gone by. As with any electronic gadget that comes along, there must be choices and discipline.
I am grateful for the opportunity to use the internet to write a blog. Today, I am saying, “Goodbye.” Let me first of all express my gratitude to those who have faithfully read this blog every day or periodically. I really hope it has been helpful. My reasons for bringing this to a close has nothing to do with you, but everything to do with me. Writing everyday has become more of a burden than a delight, and furthermore, it has become more time-consuming than I thought. Added to that, there are so many other helpful blogs that I need not add anymore clutter to our already heaped-up lives. 🙂
So, again, thanks for reading. All of these posts have truly come from this pastor’s heart.
To the People in the Pews: Love Works

There are so many things to praise God for in looking back over yesterday at Boones Creek Bible Church! One of which was the official beginning of the Love Works initiative! Through loving God with all our heart and our neighbor (Matthew 22:37-39), we want to reach the world around us for the cause of Christ. With the Great Commission as our authority (Matthew 28:18-20) and Jesus Christ our example (Mark 10:45), we desire to accomplish the following goals:
- Express the love of God through works of kindness and compassion (Matthew 9: 36-38; 25:40; James 1:27; Jude 22)
- Share the Gospel of Christ with as many people as possible (Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8)
- Impact our community as a body of Christ (Matthew 5:16)
In the days and months to come, we will be fulfilling these goals in feeding the poor, serving others in the public schools, public offices, restaurants, and college campuses, going door-to-door, serving through our Sunday School classes, basketball tournament, community clean-up, etc. The response of our people was so very encouraging today!! Thanks for all your suggestions as well!
A great illustration from Scripture as to how love works is found in the account of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). We as a body of believers will do as Jesus said, “Go and do likewise” (10:37). Love works, and it all begins in earnest next Sunday in the community around our church!!
Friday’s Findings

What have I found? Well, I found yesterday that God answered so many wonderful pleas and requests in prayer! Big and little requests. Quick and longtime requested. Am I surprised? No. God hears our cries (Psalms 18:6; 116:1-6) and answers our prayers (Matthew 7:7). God likes to surprise us, too (Jeremiah 33:3)!! Oh what rejoicing filled our hearts throughout the day as my wife and I saw God at work in His grace and mercy in response to our heart cries early yesterday morning!
Followers of Christ, you and I must see our desperateness every day! There is not a moment we do not need God! Run to Him today; trust Him; rest in Him; meditate upon Him; and most of all, pour out your heart to Him sometime today!
When you find His answers, rejoice, be grateful, sing, share, and keep going to the Throne! There you find grace (Hebrews 4:14-16). There you find what makes every answer to prayer so glorious—you find Christ, your Redeemer, Advocate, and Friend! What a find!!
